The first year I was here for the mid-autumn festival, I went along to Victoria park with friends to enjoy the lanterns. Mooncakes were passed around. They were new to me, but I hadn't had dinner yet, they seemed tasty, and so I ate three....
It was several years before I could face a mooncake again, and these days a couple of one-eighth slices is plenty for my yearly ration.
Mid-Autumn festival is still my favourite. If it's your first year in Hong Kong I recommend you head along to Victoria Park to see all the candles and lanterns - just go easy on the mooncakes.

Re:Mooncake alert
The first sign of this festival's approach is the strings of coloured lanterns hanging up for sale.
There's a row of shops on Queens Road West between Hollywood Road and Eastern Street that always look pretty at this time of the year. One of our banners shows some of their lantern selection:
Many of the expected favourites are there (Hello Kitty, Spiderman, the Japanese Superman), as well as some I don''t recognise (is that a blue penguin in the lower-right picture?)
